What I learn from this week's emerging technology class - week seven
Hello everyone! How are you doing?
This week, I learned about Blockchain!π
Blockchain is an innovative technology that started as the foundation for Bitcoin but has now expanded into many other areas. It is decentralized, meaning there is no central server, and data is maintained by network participants. Data in blockchain is organized into "blocks" linked in a chain, making it nearly impossible to alter once added. This transparency and security come from complex encryption. Networks use consensus mechanisms like Bitcoin's "Proof of Work" to verify data. Blockchain also supports "smart contracts," which automatically execute terms when conditions are met.
The only thing I knew about blockchain before was virtual currencies. My stereotype was that it was something people hyped up, such as NFT, which many celebrities used to make money. However, after listening to the teacher's class, I realized that this technology has many more potentials and applications, such as regulating the food supply chain.
Historically, new technologies are often accompanied by hype, then mature and generally become accepted. I believe that other blockchain applications will be seen more often in the near future.πͺ
