What I learn from this week's emerging technology class - week eight

Hey everyone!  This week, let me tell you what is happening in China, technology-wise. In a word, copy! Guess what, folks? OpenAI just dropped a bombshell! Starting July 9th, they'll block API traffic from unsupported countries. And yep, that means mainland China and Hong Kong are out. So, if you're using OpenAI's API there, it's time to pack your bags and move to a supported country. 🙄 But hey, don't panic! Chinese big model companies are having a field day with this. Baidu Smart Cloud is all like, "Free migration for everyone!" Alibaba Cloud is shouting about their cheap alternatives; others like Zhipu, Zero One, and Baichuan Intelligence are rolling out special plans. It's like a race to see who can grab the most customers from this mess. So, while OpenAI thinks they're making a big move, local companies are just laughing all the way to the bank. 😂 Hold on to your keyboards, developers! Let's talk about CSDN and GitCode. CSDN is a popular...

What I learn from this week's emerging technology class - week seven

Hello everyone! How are you doing? This week, I learned about Blockchain!👀 Blockchain is an innovative technology that started as the foundation for Bitcoin but has now expanded into many other areas. It is decentralized, meaning there is no central server, and data is maintained by network participants. Data in blockchain is organized into "blocks" linked in a chain, making it nearly impossible to alter once added. This transparency and security come from complex encryption. Networks use consensus mechanisms like Bitcoin's "Proof of Work" to verify data. Blockchain also supports "smart contracts," which automatically execute terms when conditions are met. The only thing I knew about blockchain before was virtual currencies. My stereotype was that it was something people hyped up, such as NFT, which many celebrities used to make money. However, after listening to the teacher's class, I realized that this technology has many more potentials and ap...

What I learn from this week's emerging technology class - week six

I am so sorry!😥 I did not go to the class this Thursday because there was an advanced web exploitation seminar, and I learned a lot about security. I promise I will be in the classroom next week! Ok, let's continue last week's topic, IOS 18!  Unlike the rush of big companies to release standalone chatbots, Apple has chosen to integrate AI features into the apps and products users are already using, blending them into everyday scenarios. This way, Apple's AI capabilities go far beyond what standalone chatbots can do. It can smartly edit photos, generate notes and text summaries, automatically transcribe voice memos, and more. Apple uses its own developed internal models for simpler AI features while relying on more powerful external models like GPT for more advanced and complex AI functions. But here's the catch! This smart feature requires chip power and is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and laptops with M-series chips. As an iPhone 15 user, I'm pretty bummed ...

What I learn from this week's emerging technology class - week five

This week, let's talk about Apple!🍎 Not the fruit, but the company, of course! WWDC event, which will take place June 10th through 14th. At this conference, Apple will release a new generation of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, tvOS 18, watchOS 11, and visionOS 2 operating systems. Among them, the one that gets the most attention from consumers, that's me, is still iOS 18. Some online rumours claim that iOS 18 may include generative AI technology, making it one of the most upgraded versions in Apple's history. Let's hope that this update will allow the Siri on my phone to function as the intelligent assistant I envisioned it to be and not be the silly artificial idiot that it is.👀 Incorporating new-age AI into phones is already something that the big players are trying to do today. Just two days ago, OPPO cell phones from China announced that they would fully popularize AI cell phones, allowing about 50 million users to have their phones equipped with generative AI func...
